Biobenefity F

Biobenefity F is an artichoke leaf extract with the active compound Cynaropicrin. Biobenefity was named from “bio (life)” and “benefit (blessing)” with the concept of "a beauty food ingredient that brings blessings from the life (plants) grown on the earth. Biobenefity F contains high levels of Cynaropicrin which has a strong inhibitory effect on NF-κB transcription hyperactivity, and is expected to prevent skin from Photoaging and to have beauty effects such as whitening.

NF-κB and Photoaging, Skin Darkening

UV and inflammation cause hyperactivation of NF-κB activity in cells. Overactivation of NF-κB increases the production of cell growth factor: bFGF (basic Fibroblast Growth Factor), and induces keratinocytes proliferation, abnormal keratinization and melanocytes proliferation, causing epidermal thickening, pigmentation, etc.

Ichimaru Pharcos has confirmed that NF-κB is highly related to Photoaging and reported that various symptoms of Photoaging can be prevented with NF-κB inhibitors.

Genes in our body are locked and not expressed when they are not needed. The key to unlocking is called “transcription factors,” and one of the typical transcription factors is Nuclear Factor-kappa B (NF-κB).

NF-κB is activated in response to various stimulations and increases the expression of various genes are related to immune response, cell proliferation, apoptosis, inflammation, etc. Ordinarily, genes are unlocked only when needed, but when cells are in an abnormal condition, such as inflammation, genes are overexpressed due to the hyperactivation of NF-κB.

Inhibition of NF-κB transcription hyperactivity Active compound: Cynaropicrin

Comparison between Cynaropicrin and Biobenefity F

Active compound: Cynaropicrin

We discovered that “ Cynaropicrin” is an active compound in artichoke extract and developed Biobenefity F, a food ingredient containing Cynaropicrin.

Biobenefity F contains high levels of Cynaropicrin, which has a strong inhibitory effect on NF-κB transcription hyperactivation, therefore it is expected to be effective in strongly preventing of Photoaging and improving internal problems from inflammation.

One of the major characteristics of UV-induced photoaging is skin hardening and loss of elasticity due to epidermal thickening. NF-κB activated by UV induces epidermal inflammation, which leads to epidermal thickening (hyperproliferation of epidermal cells).

Mice were exposed to UV to induce photoaging and were given 300 mg/kg artichoke extract powder (Biobenefity F) or dextrin (control).

Eight healthy men and women in their 40s to 60s took 100 mg/day (1 capsule/day) of artichoke extract (Biobenefity F) or dextrin (control) for 8 weeks, and the area of pigmentation was measured and analyzed using a Robo Skin Analyzer.

NF-κB (Nuclear Factor-kappa B) is a transcription factor for genes that cause cancer, rheumatism, atopic dermatitis, and other diseases. The regulation of NF-κB is a research theme that researchers around the world, especially in the pharmaceutical industry, are challenging. We are the first to approach this theme from the field of beauty care.

We started with basic research to clarify how NF-κB acts in skin physiology and what kind of control methods are effective, and searched for potential useful substances in the field of beauty and health. As a result, we confirmed the NF-κB inhibitory action of artichoke leaf extract and identified cynaropicrin as the active compound.

Artichoke leaf extract and cynaropicrin are attracting attention not only as beauty and health food materials but also as cosmetic materials.

The theme that is attracting the attention of pharmaceutical professionals around the world is approached from the beauty field!
